Which Guillotine Or Paper Cutter Should You Buy
September 5, 2016If you’ve ever had to cut out a large amount of paper or card with a pair of scissors then you’ll know how uncomfortable it can become after a while. You may have even developed the dreaded ‘scissor claw’ where you can’t move your hand properly for a while. If that sounds familiar then it might be time to invest in a guillotine or paper cutter to give your poor hands a rest. But which one should you buy?

There are quite a few different types and styles available, so we’ve put together a quick guide to help you make the right choice.
How much space do you have?
A big consideration for a lot of people is how much space is available. If you don’t have much room, then you’re obviously limited to the size of guillotine you can buy.
For example, if you work in a print shop then you’re more likely to have a larger space than someone who’s doing their cutting at home.
If space is at a premium, then one of our Carl paper trimmers should do the job. They’re lightweight, compact and can easily slide into a cupboard or even down the side of the sofa. We also sell Carl trimmer blades as well.
However, if you have a little more room then you could opt for a Trimfast trimmer that stands at table height and makes everything incredibly easy and comfortable to use.
How much are you cutting?
You’ll also need to think about what and how much you’re cutting, as this will dictate the type of guillotine you need.
If you’re cutting a large amount of thick card, you don’t want to be using a small, lightweight trimmer or you’ll be there forever, and could even break your cutter.
We have a great range of Trimfast heavy duty paper cutters that are ideal for print or copy shops or large reprographics departments.
They can be adjusted to cope with different sizes of paper or card and, depending on the model, can cut up to 800 sheets at a time.
Conversely, if you’re only cutting out a handful of sheets of paper, you don’t really need to be shelling out on a heavy duty guillotine when a smaller, cheaper one will do just fine.
If you’re only doing a small amount of cutting, then the aforementioned Carl trimmers are a good choice, with this A3 paper trimmer a good all-rounder.
What’s your budget?
Cost is going to play a large part in many people’s buying decisions. If money’s no object then that’s great, and you can afford to choose whichever trimmer you want.
However, if you’re on a budget, then there are plenty of options still available to you. We have a selection of guillotines available at various different price points, so you should be able to find something within your budget.
Even if you have to downsize slightly, there’s plenty of choice available. For example, if a heavy duty cutter is out of your price range, then one of our Trimfast trimmers will still do an excellent job.
